Restore protest rights

No matter who we are, where we live or whatever our backgrounds, we all want those in power to listen to our concerns. We want them to work to build a brighter future for us and our communities.

But successive governments have clamped down on ways for people to speak up on important issues. The last Government’s Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 and Public Order Act 2023 criminalised a wide range of protect activities.

This new Government has a chance to undo the damage done by Suella Braverman and raft of other Home Secretaries, and usher in a society where everyone has the right to speak out for what they believe in.

Sign our petition calling on Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper to repeal the last Government’s anti-protest laws.

To: Keir Starmer

We call on you to scrap the last Government’s authoritarian, anti-protest measures in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 and the Public Order Act 2023...

We all want to be able to speak out on the issues that matter to us. The UK has a long and proud history of protests that have driven positive change in society.

But the last government’s anti-protest laws are already criminalising people who take to the streets for a cause they believe in. We never know when protesting might be important to us, from calling for racial justice to disability rights, and from grieving families calling for answers to campaigning for your local library to be saved.

The only people who benefit from stifling dissent are those in power, who don’t want to be challenged or held accountable.

It’s time to turn a page, restore protest rights and build a society where everyone can stand up for what they believe in.
